The Sony DSC-H400 is one of the latest compact camera’s bridge type submitted by the manufacturer. In particular, this model was launched this year, in February, along with the Sony DSC-HX400V, and has a really attractive design, comfortable grip with SLR-style, and especially the higher optical zoom of its category.

Starting right from the specifications, the H400 is equipped with an image sensor type Super HAD CCD 1/2, 3 inches in size and with an effective resolution of approximately 20.1 megapixels, also excellent in low-light conditions,   and Sony a lens that has an aperture of F3.4-f6.5 and a focal length of 4.4 to 277 mm, equivalent to 24.5 to 1550 mm in 35 mm format. The prominent feature is the optical zoom, which reaches the value of 63x, can also be used when recording video clips. The digital zoom is equal to about 126x.

Speaking now of the various features offered by the Sony DSC-H400, you can certainly start by SteadyShot, ie, the optical image stabilizer that compensates for the movement of the machine, such as when using a high zoom, ensuring consistently sharp photos and perfect. Definitely important, then, the manual controls are located in a strategic and very intuitive, allowing you to achieve professional results.

For those are not very familiar with the various settings and wants to leave it to the car, or just want to start to learn about the various options, the camera is also equipped with the automatic settings according to the scene and shooting conditions. The advanced flash allows for brighter images when needed, indoors, at dusk and at night. Another interesting feature is the built-in electronic viewfinder that assists the LCD display, sometimes even replacing it, to offer the user a complete professional.

With the Sony DSC-H400 can also record HD video footage, with a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Other specifications include a shutter speed, ie 1 – 1/2000 sec, various modes of white balance, an ISO range that goes from 80 to 3200, various shooting modes and picture effects. The  self-timer and shutter speeds continuous 0.71 fps.

Speaking now of saving photos and videos, the camera has an internal memory of 55 MB and a slot for cards such as Secure Digital, SDHC, SDXC, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO HG Duo, Memory Stick XC-HG Duo and Memory Stick Micro. As regards the interface is equipped with a USB port and connector microHDMI. The included battery can take around 300 pictures and record approximately 150 minutes of video. The package finally included the rechargeable battery, adapter, USB cable, instruction manual, shoulder strap and lens cover.

Conclusion

Great for those who want to start having total control over her photos and videos, the Sony DSC-H400 is a bridge camera with countless features and, in particular, a high zoom, the optical image stabilizer,  an electronic viewfinder and full manual controls. This is a mid-range machine, with a display resolution of not very high, only HD video clips and more importantly, does not support the RAW format. In defined a good compromise at an affordable price.
