Yamaha RX-V483: Review

Yamaha has succeeded in creating an AV receiver that, despite being entry-level, can satisfy the most demanding customers if you are audiophiles, but with a small budget, the Yamaha RX-V483 can be a good compromise.

Equipped with five surround channels that you will like for their power, it allows you to listen to streaming music thanks to Bluetooth, which some users believe to be unstable; in short, from time to time, it happens that you lose the signal.

Yamaha has also focused heavily on MusicCast, a function that allows pairing with devices equipped with similar technology and controlling everything through a dedicated app.

MusicCast uses the wireless connection to reproduce the audio that can be shared on external devices such as, for example, a TV or a Blu-ray player and other devices equipped with this technology, even if present in other rooms of the house.

Simple connections

The Yamaha RX-V483 supports the latest generation HDMI specifications and offers you the possibility to fully enjoy 4K definition. It is compatible with many formats, such as HDR. Connections are simple; the integrated Wi-Fi allows you to connect to your home router to listen to your favorite music; the alternative is the Wireless Direct function useful for streaming songs directly from the smartphone.

Using the appropriate application, the setup operations will be very simple; you will be guided step by step from the connection of the various cables to the calibration of the system.

Users have expressed satisfaction with the simplicity of the management of the AV receiver—very good connectivity with five HDMI (four inputs and one output). For iPod, iPhone, etc., there is a digital USB connection.

Small display

Most of the criticisms have affected the display. There are many users who consider it too small and said they were disturbed by the fact that the names of the artists or the songs are read truncated if too long. Furthermore, the sliding is considered too slow.

Some discontent is also due to the reception of the FM signal, which is not perfect. The design is certainly beautiful, Yamaha has created an elegant but, according to some, even bulky device. Nor does the remote control convince both aesthetically and practically.

The volume potentiometer requires an excessive turn to increase or decrease the value; users would have preferred to have been more sensitive to touch.

Excellent quality of materials: the AV receiver is solid, heavy; you immediately see that it has been well built. Finally, the price that for such a device is not bad at all.

We believe it is an investment worth making, and we have no doubts that, despite the fact that the device can be improved in some details, nobody will regret the purchase.

Overall

PROS: Considering the many functions and compatibility with many audio standards, the sound quality as well as the excellent materials, we can speak of a good quality/price ratio.

CONS: Quite a few users have complained about the excessively small size of the display, to the point that often the names of the artists or songs are truncated; moreover, everything flows too slowly. Also noteworthy is that Bluetooth sins instability, it has happened that the signal is lost while the volume potentiometer should be more sensitive.
