HTC One Mini: Review

HTC Mini One is the younger brother of the appreciated Android smartphone HTC One, against which features small size, but a hardware level.

HTC Hero is back this year with the new smartphone HTC One, which has received the approval of the experts and won numerous awards. Now, just a few months away, the Taiwanese company has released a version with smaller dimensions of its flagship model, with smaller size but same care in design and materials used: the HTC One Mini is aimed to those who want a smartphone with reduced size, but without giving up the benefits of top of the range.

As we have already had to occasion to say, the materials used and quality construction almost completely replicates the elder brother: the polycarbonate side band is slightly wider than the One, completely covering the sides of your smartphone and is made in shiny material that gives a good feeling to the touch. With dimensions of 132 × 63.2 × 9.3 mm, the Mini One reduced by about half a centimeter both width and height.

While maintaining a thickness identical to the One and greatly reducing the weight, down to just 122 grams. The display is 4.3 inch Super LCD2 type and with a resolution of 720 × 1,280 pixels, bringing the density to 342 ppi. Here too we find, at the ends, the two-front stereo speakers, 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera and proximity sensors and brightness, in addition to the two capacitive buttons located at the bottom.

On the sides of the HTC Mini One, on the top we have the power button, without infrared sensor. Unlike his older brother, and the audio jack of 3.5 mm to the right, the volume rocker and on the left, the slot for the microSIM; below, the microUSB port and the microphone. On the back of the terminal, finally, the camera is placed Ultrapixel 4, the LED flash and microphone for noise cancellation.

HTC One Mini: Features

Inside we find the HTC One Mini Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 400, a dual-core 1.4 GHz Krait assisted by Adreno 305 graphics chip and 1GB of RAM. The mass storage memory is 16 GB (of which approximately 5 GB are occupied by the Android operating system and HTC Sense interface and slightly more than 10 GB are available to the user in single partition), and you cannot expand the memory with microSD. The battery is not removable. It is lithium polymer battery and has a capacity of 1,800 mAh, the duration is quite satisfying and exceeding expectations.

When you go to examine the network connectivity, there are four GSM bands (850/900/1800/1900), three-band HSPA (900/1900/2100) with download speeds up to 42 Mbps, and three-band 4G LTE ( 800/1800/2600). Other connectivity includes Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n (dual-band 2.4 / 5 GHz), DLNA and localization systems through A-GPS and GLONASS. Between the sensors, we have the now standard accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope. We do not find NFC connectivity.

The main camera incorporates the same technology HTC UltraPixel HTC One: here we find the maximum resolution of 4 megapixels (2,688 × 1,520 pixels), always with pixel size equal to 2 micron sensor 1/3 “, f/2.0 and backlight. Although absent image stabilizer, we find all the advanced features on One: geo-tagging, face and smile detection, HDR, panorama, burst-shot and even HTC Zoe.

The video recording can be made up to 30 fps 1080p. The front camera has a resolution of 1.6 mega pixels and is accompanied by wide-angle sensor and backlit, the ability to capture 720p HD video. Inside the sales package, over the phone and manuals, we find the wall charger, USB cable and in-ear headphones of good quality.

HTC One Mini: Performance

Performance HTC Mini One are satisfactory: the menu navigation and application use are fluid, and the experience is comparable to that of the HTC One despite the processor is different. This is certainly due to the lightness of 5 Sense and features of Jelly Bean, and the sign that HTC has done a great job in optimizing this terminal.

Clearly, if we were to compare it to the only One, the processor and RAM differences between the two terminals, there would also note the differences between the performances of the two smartphones. It is fair and appropriate to evaluate the HTC One Mini for what it is: a smartphone-end medium-high by comparison with its direct competitors.

In this area, you can see only occasional slowdowns due to excessive multitasking, a type of forced use in our tests and rarely repeats in normal situations. Nothing to complain about the quality of the images and video: they are perhaps slightly lower than that found for the HTC One, but the details and the yield is absolutely convincing.

The audio HTC One Mini benefits from the system BoomSound already highly regarded for power and fidelity in his elder brother, where HTC, also in the range of medium-high-end models, is superior to competing vendors.

Conclusions

HTC One Mini is definitely a great medium to high-end smartphones, offering a beautiful and elegant design and construction materials, solid and robust. In addition, no compromises regarding the main hardware features and performance, perfectly in line with the segment. In addition to this, we can certainly recommend the purchase of the terminal to all those looking for a smartphone lightweight and easy to handle at a cost of selling affordable.
